Who We Are
Officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in January of 2009, the goal of The Meditation Initiative is to provide free public meditation within the San Diego Community. The organization was founded by Jeff Zlotnik, based on his experience leading meditation throughout San Diego, starting with bringing meditation into the prisons in 2003. TMI received its 501(c)(3) status August 30, 2009 and has served more than 5,000 people in San Diego this year.
Jeff Zlotnik, Executive Director

Jeff Zlotnik has worked to bring the mental health benefits of mindfulness and meditation to the San Diego Community since 2003. Jeff began his meditation practice in 1996 while receiving his BA in Psychology at the University of Arizona. During this time he worked at a Group Home for teenage girls, began leading them in meditation and saw tremendous change in their attitude. He also worked at the Polinsky Children’s Center in 1996. Jeff approaches meditation simply as a daily practice of mindfulness laying the foundation for a happier and healthier life.
Jeff’s background includes community service work with the homeless and prison re-entry programs with Second Chance, and helping to develop community partnerships for TKF, an organization dedicated to peace and non-violence for youth impacted by gangs. In his work Jeff has counseled physically, sexually, and emotionally abused adolescents and worked with homeless and teens in an effort to share methods for creating inner-peace and harmony. Jeff spent seven years as a Consultant working with SAP, Oracle, Siebel and RDR, in addition to coaching youth baseball for 15 years.
